Deep Sea Fishing in Channel Islands

My first deep sea fishing trip.

I was thrilled when my nephew invited me to go deep sea fishing with him. We chose Channel Islands Sportfishing for the variety of fish compared to OC and LA fish counts. I love Channel Islands National Park. During my last trip there, I explored Anacapa Island for wildflower season.

​An interesting mix of people including many children. We were on a smaller than expected boat. I usually get seasick, but took measures to prevent getting sick. I took medication the night before and before we set sail. I also ate a light breakfast and avoided coffee. I also mindfully packed some snacks.

We fished along "the gap" between Anacapa and Santa Cruz Islands.

The moment I caught fish within seconds of dropping my line in the ocean. I caught two at the same time -- sculpin and treefish.

The almost jackpot. The heaviest catch wins the jackpot of $10 per entrant to the contest. My nephew caught the second heaviest fish.

We caught all these fish! Barracuda, rock fish, sculpin, tree fish, and perch.

We paid $3 for them to clean or filet our fish.

All in all, it was a memorable experience. We had a great time disconnecting and unplugging for the day. It was a lot of fun and I have a freezer full of wild, local fish.
