Must See Public Libraries in Los Angeles

Your Guide to the Best Libraries in Los Angeles

I've been exploring our Los Angeles public libraries and will continue to visit more public libraries these coming weeks. I have already found a few of my favorites so far.  My criteria for libraries to be placed on my "best" list are the following:  interesting architecture, scenic views from the library, very  quiet (like a true library should be) so you can focus on whatever you're reading, writing, or working on... and a clean bathroom. These are some of my favorite escapes in Los Angeles -- it doesn't always have to be a beach or out in nature.  Enjoy!
Brand Library & Art Center | Glendale, California

The Moorish and Indian-inspired architecture outside library will captivate you.

The interior is the most inviting I have experienced yet at any Los Angeles library. It's very quiet and clean. It feels like an art museum.

The library seems to focus solely on the creative arts. They have one of the largest collections of CDs at library including a small collection of vinyl. If your interests are in music, paintings, street art, or architecture, you will really enjoy time at this library. They have a massive collection of hard cover books for creative types.

Before or after your visit to the libary, you can choose to go on a hike. There are 3 trails behind the library. The view at the top of the Seven Trees Trail will leave you inspired and breathless.
West Hollywood Library

Another standout library is West Hollywood Library which is located directly across the Pacific Design Center (PDC).  From the exterior to interior, it exudes style and sophistication. There's art to check out inside and a nice area to read, study, or work with a view of PDC. They have a large, special collection of Art & Design, Food, and LGBT books and films. Parking is free for 3 hours with validation at the library. You can also check out the park and the PDC Art Gallery across the street. I loved this public library.  They even allow you to print up to 10 pages for free, but you'll have to get yourself an Los Angeles County Library card.
Payson Library at Pepperdine University | Malibu, California

For all day to late night study, work, or reading sessions, I would visit Payson Library at the Pepperdine campus in Malibu. I was there until 11:30 pm one night reading books. On some nights, they're open until 2 am.  You'll have the view of the ocean during the day and a Starbucks conveniently located in the library. Bring your laptop to browse the internet between book reading and a sealed water container as they have filtered water bottle stations. There's also a special collections section and an art gallery on the second floor.  Park on any of the streets on campus and enjoy a meal with a view on the patio at the café. You'll need a visitor pass if you're visiting Monday through Friday during the day.  Check their website for hours.  library.pepperdine.edu

Stay tuned as I add more of my favorites.

    Hello, I'm Anne.

I was born and raised in Los Angeles, and I love exploring Los Angeles like a tourist. I have as much fun in my hometown as I do traveling in another country. I live to eat (good food) and travel!

I hope my adventures will inspire you to travel, eat well, and live life without any regrets.
